Temporary Traffic Lights A623 Lovers Leap
Stoney Middleton Parish Council has been informed by Derbyshire County Council that they will start remediation works on the Lovers Leap Rock Face situated between Hill Springs Laundry and the Curry Cottage in Stoney Middleton
Since November 2019 when a rock fall triggered the emergency closure of the A623 there have been protective hay bales in place to protect the general public from further rock debris entering the carriageway. Since then, the Authority has continued to monitor the rock face and it is their intention to finally undertake the remedial works starting Monday 11th July 2022. These works will run for approximately 19 weeks until 25th November and will be conducted under traffic signal control with the Westbound lane being taken up by the traffic management enclosure.
To facilitate this scheme most of the large layby a little further up on the South Side will be requisitioned for the establishment of the contractors' compound over the duration of the programme.
The Parish Council met with representatives from Derbyshire County Council, the Contractor -Eurovia and Councillor Susan Hobson on site. Affected businesses and all statutory agencies had already been consulted. The temporary lights will be from outside the laundry to the end of the Indian restaurant. We stated that our priority was to avoid traffic queuing and idling from the Indian restaurant to the chip shop.
We understand that the first week will be a period of bedding down to see how traffic flows and changes to phasing made , should there be a build-up of westbound traffic. The Parish Council will be monitoring the situation, but any comments, observations or suggestions must be addressed to:
